The Duchess Of California
Good times never take a holiday
On the shoreline sand of Alamitos Bay
Where golden state tectonic plates collide
You know I like to go the scenic route
Over fifty five, in case the rednecks shoot
My desert roasted west coast bloated hide
I don't mind flipping back another page
Of a Steinbeck story from another age
I'm feeling fine like Marin County wine
Spanish coffee, dark espresso
Nut brown blondies in a Mustang special
Skateboard kids and brownout grids roll by
Life's so easy for the reckless spender
The over-reacher meets the big time lender
Flying down the foothill freeway line
The season's closing on the empty nesters
Tall girls bending over high tea testers
Step aside at half past closing time
Mendocino with a silver necklace
Oleander flowers at the bed and breakfast
Hot tub lazy, bushfire hazy skies
Eight lane freeway, not so speedy
The Long Beach sailor waits alone to greet me
Salty breeze and hungry seagull cries
